Traffic levels throughout Greater
London have increased dramatically
over the past ten years. Constraints on
efficient logistic movements are faced
daily by all vehicle operators and
construction projects alike. This
coupled with the obvious need for
environmental issues to be addressed
has made us at Walsh look at the river
as a means to help ease this problem.
We are not new to river works having been involved
with our partners at General Port Services, in major
disposal and material supply contracts such as Canary
Wharf, CTRL 320 and various Thames River dredging
projects. We are currently moving over 100,000m3 of
material from DLR Woolwich Arsenal tunnel extension
via barge to our East Tilbury site. Over the past few
years we have looked at securing new sites that
enhance our strategic position for river works.
We believe our sites at Victoria Deep Wharf, Barking
River Side and Cleanaways Pitsea together with our
East Tilbury location have allowed us to meet this
objective. We are in a position to offer services
including soil washing, recycled aggregates, primary
aggregates and waste transfer, with the ability to
supply all materials and remove all types of waste by
river.
Projects on or near the river in London have always
looked at barging as a transport option for materials
in and out, and this is a service we hope to make more
attractive. With our new river sites and strategy, it is
the projects away from this immediate area that can
gain both environmental and financial benefits that
previously would have been unrealised.
